MIDTOWN — Desperation has driven New York City officials to burn the festive tree shortly after its recent lighting to appease the gods of snow.

Officials came to the decision after the city hit a new record of days without major snowfall.

The Park Department will oversee the burning, where the tree will be moved to the middle of Sheep’s Meadow in Central Park and ignited with a flamethrower. Ornaments and lights will remain on the tree for budget reasons.

“Hopefully, burning such a massive tree with plastic throughout it doesn’t contribute more to climate change, which is the more likely culprit,” said Assistant Parks Commissioner Zhuyin Huang, who is tasked with procuring the ceremonial flamethrower. “The lit tree is about to get more lit.”
