PARIS — In a move that stunned transit authorities everywhere, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced today that turnstile jumping will be added as an official event for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The decision comes after years of lobbying by the International Turnstile Jumping Federation (ITJF).

“We’re thrilled that the IOC has finally recognized the athleticism and skill required to successfully clear a turnstile and evade law enforcement,” said ITJF president Jacques Saute. “This is a major leap for our sport and stilists everywhere.”

To explain for the majority of Americans, a turnstile is a barrier typically found at the entrance of heavy rail rapid transit systems. They’re designed to allow one person to pass through at a time after presenting proof of a paid fare and to prevent entry to those who have not.

The event will feature individual competitions in two divisions, separated by turnstile type: Tripod and Doors.

The former features standard metal, 3 wall-mounted bars, while the latter boasts the larger, gate style, which are much harder to clear. After clearing, competitors must evade IOC judges playing the role of transit police and reach the finish line. Points will be awarded for speed, style, and height clearance.

New York native Maury Hill is the leading US hopeful, having broken several records already.

When asked about his potential international opponents, Hill laughed. “I’m sure the Parisians and other stilists are have worked hard, but nothing makes you move faster than being chased by the NYPD.”
